Giftedness

What is giftedness?

Children with giftedness demonstrate significantly above average intelligence or talents in one or more areas, which might include math, language, music, art, etc. Each state also has definitions for giftedness, so that gifted students can be provided with an education that is tailored to meet their unique needs. Each school district has different score requirements for children to gain entrance into their specific gifted programs.

Dr. Hoffman has a special interest in working with gifted children and teens.

Understanding and meeting the unique needs of gifted children is crucial for nurturing their exceptional abilities and fostering their development. Dr. Valerie Hoffman specializes in providing comprehensive assessments for giftedness, including evaluations of intellectual abilities (IQ), to ensure the accurate identification of gifted children for tailored educational services.
The assessment process for giftedness includes the use of a standardized, individually administered assessment of cognitive ability, including an IQ score and assessment of verbal, nonverbal, and quantitative reasoning abilities required for gifted eligibility determination.
Dr. Hoffman also recognizes the importance of addressing the social-emotional needs of gifted children. To that end, Dr. Hoffman particularly enjoys working with gifted youth in therapy to address common issues of anxiety and perfectionism, as well as the myriad of social-emotional needs that twice-gifted students often have. To help these children and their parents navigate their unique social and emotional experiences, she provides guidance and support, fostering resilience and well-being.
